How to Create and Restore VPS Backups in the Rackzar Client Area

Backing up your VPS is an important part of protecting your data and ensuring that you can recover quickly if needed.

Please note that backups are not created automatically when you purchase a VPS. You will need to log in to your Rackzar client area and create your own backup schedule.

Important Information

Backups are not enabled by default on new VPS services.
After your VPS has been provisioned, you must log in and configure your own backup schedule.

Each VPS includes 1 free backup slot.
Additional backup slots can be purchased if you require more backup retention.

A backup slot refers to the number of retained backups you can keep.
For example, 1 slot allows 1 retained backup, 2 slots allow 2 retained backups, and so on.

If you restore from a backup available in your client area, you can perform the restore yourself.
If no backup exists in your client area and we need to restore from our own internal backups, a restore fee will apply.

Step 1: Log in to Your Client Area

Log in to the Rackzar client area using your account credentials.

Step 2: Navigate to Additional Tools

Once logged in:

  1. Go to Services

  2. Click on your VPS

  3. Either:

    • Scroll down to the Additional Tools section, or

    • Click on Additional Tools on the left hand side menu

Step 3: Click on Backup Schedules

Under Additional Tools, click on Backup Schedules.

This section allows you to:

  1. View your existing backup schedules

  2. Create a new backup schedule

  3. Manage backup timing and retention

Step 4: View Existing Schedule or Create a New One

Inside Backup Schedules, you can review your current schedule if one already exists.

If no schedule has been created yet, you will need to create one for your VPS.

When creating a schedule, make sure you select the correct VPS and set the required frequency and retention according to the number of backup slots available on your service.

Understanding Backup Slots

Each VPS includes 1 free backup slot.

A backup slot determines how many restore points can be retained for that VPS.

Example:

  1. 1 backup slot = 1 retained backup

  2. 2 backup slots = 2 retained backups

  3. 3 backup slots = 3 retained backups

If you need longer retention, additional backup slots can be purchased.

How to Restore a Backup

If backups are available in your client area, you can restore the VPS by clicking on:

  1. Backups

  2. Backup Collections

From there, select the relevant backup and proceed with the restore.

Restore Fee Information

If you already have backups available in your client area, you can restore from those directly.

If there is no backup available in your client area and we are required to restore the VPS from our own internal backups, a restore fee of R300 will apply.

  1. Backups are not created automatically for new VPS services

  2. You must log in and create your own backup schedule

  3. Each VPS includes 1 free backup slot

  4. Additional backup slots can be purchased for more retention

  5. A restore can be performed from the client area using Backups or Backup Collections

  6. If we need to restore from our own internal backups because no client backup exists, a restore fee will apply
